When I first saw this shirt, I laughed steadily for a good 10 minutes. I'd stop, look away and collect myself, then look and bust out all over again. Seriously, I couldn't breathe.
This shirt manages to be both crude and intellectual at the same time. Highbrow meets lowbrow. Truly brilliant. Let's take a look...
First off, the shirt is beautifully designed - the iconic imagery is easily recognizable and the fonts bring the message to the forefront from any distance. The shirt is designed for maximum visual impact.
Next, the joke itself. I mean really, slavery is offensive anywhere in the world. In the United States, the word immediately brings to mind the enslavement of blacks in the first half of the country's history. But this shirt brilliantly sidesteps that particular flaming paper bag on the doorstep and takes us back to a few thousand years ago and ancient Egypt's enslavement of its own people (as well as captives from enemy neighbors).
It's easy to forget that one of the most iconic, easily recognized and universally admired objects on the planet was built with slave labor. Think about it, did any of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World just happen? We look back on these marvels and think "Wow! How did they do that way back then?" Well, here's your answer...
